Your brain data, your choice

Three modes

Private only
Your data stays yours; nothing is shared.
Contribute to the average
Anonymized; contributes to “Everyone’s Brain.”
Allow research use
Opt in to specific studies.

Private by default. Opt-in eye tracking is computed on your device. Your webcam eye tracking images never leave your device, and only the on-screen gaze positioning and blink moments can be shared, and only if you choose to. Export or delete your data anytime.

Your rights & how long we keep your data

We rely on your consent. Your account is private by default; contributing to the average or allowing research use is an explicit opt-in you can change or withdraw at any time from Account & privacy.

How long we keep it. We keep your account data while your account is open. Our stated retention policy for research data is 15 years. We keep it that long because some science needs years of data: games/projects like You vs. Your Past Self compare your brain now with your brain years from now, and research rules expect study data to be kept for many years so the work can be checked later. Your privacy still comes first: you can delete any single recording, or your whole account, whenever you like, and deletion permanently removes your encrypted brainwaves and personal details. Anonymous contributions to “Everyone’s Brain” are unlinkable to you by design, so they stay in the anonymous average and can’t be individually withdrawn.

Access, portability & erasure. From Account & privacy you can download a copy of your data, and permanently delete your account yourself. If you ever need help with a data request, contact us at [email protected].

We build these controls as a matter of principle and provide the tools an ethics or legal review needs. We do not claim that any particular privacy regime, such as the GDPR, CCPA, California SB 1223, Quebec Law 25, or PIPEDA, is, by itself, “met.”

Website analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: which pages people visit and a few key actions, like connecting a headset, so we can make iborg better. Google Analytics runs only if you accept the cookie banner; decline it and it stays off. No brain data, gaze data, or account details are ever sent to Google. Your choice is saved on this device, and you can change it anytime from the “Cookie settings” in the footer.
